very small hut suitable for ducks

My ducks are currently borrowing a hen hut for their sleeping quarters but it’s not ideal for them, too many steps to climb with webbed feet! Have you a small wooden hut that you no longer have a use for and that you might be willing to sell me? Please ring 468001

Jubilee Plans – next installment!

We had a useful meeting on 18th April and the plans for some Jubilee celebrations in the villages are coming together.

If you want to catch up, the notes from the meeting are posted on the Jubilee section on the website (under the Community Menu)

There was a display of the Jubilee Plans at the Spring Saturday Social and visitors to the social voted for the type of event they would like to attend – picnics and tea parties were popular!

The next planning meeting will be on Tuesday, 8th May at 6,30pm at Sand Hutton Village Hall. If you would like to be involved in helping with the Jubilee plans, please contact Laura Edwards 468207 or Anne White 468550.

Litter Pick – Sunday 6th May

Come along to the Village Hall, Sand Hutton at 2.30pm on Sunday 6th May if you can help with a litter pick around Claxton and Sand Hutton.

Last time we did a litter pick, it was actually good fun and we found some interesting (?) items….There will be refreshments to revive you after the litter pick in the Village Hall.

The Parish Council is working with Ryedale District Council to provide bags, litter pickers, high vis vests and gloves.

So please come and help keep our villages tidy and free from litter.

Calling all budding (and seasoned) photographers !

Are there any keen amateur photographers out there? Want to improve and share your photography skills in a friendly environment? If so, i am looking at setting up a local photo group. The following are some initial ideas around what the Group would/might/could do :

  • Share Information, Experience and Tips for Better Photography
  • Organise Local Photo Walks and visits to sites of interest
  • Invite Guest Speakers / Organise ‘Show and Tell’ Sessions
  • Create a Gallery of Local Interest Photos (show them on the website or maybe even publish a book!)
  • Help other local groups and clubs by doing some pics for them
  • Discuss Equipment and Techniques, web resources, software etc.
  • Organise Competitions and Photo Challenges
  • Share Equipment
  • Have fun !

I’d expect to meet around once a month, maybe slightly more frequently in the summer months.

If you are interested drop me an email : amfawcett@gmail.com or give me a call on (01904) 468020

If we can get at least half a dozen together we’ll give it a go !

Saturday Social / Annual Parish Meeting

I think those who attended would agree that the 2nd Saturday Social in the village hall was a great way to spend a wet Saturday afternoon!

Really scrumptious cakes (all thoughts of diets forgotten) and the plant stall was heaving with a large variety of plants – and at 50p a pot (plus free carrier bag), a true bargain – not often you get those these days. There were some new books and DVDs which if not sold went onto the community library shelf (something else to check out if you haven’t already).

It was good to meet PC Andy Grant and talk to him about some of the issues affecting our villages -expect to see him and his PCSOs shortly! If you need to contact him, you can use the new 101 number. Following the tea and cakes, the annual parish meeting took place, giving everyone the chance to discuss matters affecting the villages. No doubt Laura will be posting more on this soon.
So overall, I think it safe to say we all had a great time.

If you couldn’t make this one, do give the next one a try – I think you’ll be very pleasantly suprised and we’d love to see you!

Jubilee Meeting This Wednesday 7.30pm

A reminder of the next Diamond Jubilee planning meeting which will be held this Wednesday (18th April) at Sand Hutton Village Hall at 7.30pm. Plans are developing for a thanksgiving at St Mary’s, a heritage display and a party picnic with games – perhaps a tug of war! But we still do not have enough interest to organise a fireworks evening with bonfire so come along if you have ideas or could lend a hand with the organising. Some members of our community have fond memories of jubilee celebrations in the villages in the past so lets try and make the Diamond Jubilee a party to remember too!

Planned Litter Pick – deferred

Various members of the community are keen to carry out a litter pick through Claxton and Sand Hutton before the grass gets too long. The date of Saturday 14th April had been discussed at the last Parish Council meeting. However, quite a few of the usual helpers are not available and the event needs more planning and advertising so the litter pick will not happen this Saturday. A new date of the afternoon of Sunday May 6th has been proposed. Hopefully, teams will walk around the villages collecting litter and then meet afterwards for refreshments. Look out for more information very soon. Thank you.
