Christmas Saturday Social

The Christmas Saturday Social is now just 4 weeks away!

Come and meet our new MP Kevin Hollinrake and our District Councillor Caroline Goodrick.

As usual there will be local products to buy, information on local clubs and village hall activities, the community library and delicious refreshments to enjoy plus with Christmas approaching, mulled wine will be served at midday along with a Christmassy musical interlude.

The Saturday Socials also provide an opportunity for local small businesses to introduce themselves to the community so if you would like to come and say hello, please contact either Caroline (468376) or Angela (468396) for further information

Parish Council Volunteers Required – can you help?

CLAXTON AND SAND HUTTON PARISH COUNCIL

CAN YOU HELP ?

Are you interested in helping to maintain and improve our two villages ? Can you spare a couple of hours every six weeks ?

Claxton and Sand Hutton Parish Council is made up of six Parish Councillors, three councillors representing Sand Hutton and three for Claxton. There is also a Parish Clerk who deals with all the correspondence and the finances and is in constant touch with the Chairman and other Councillors.

We are currently trying to fill two vacancies, one from each village.

The Parish Council often acts as a link between the local residents and other local government and commercial bodies such as Ryedale District Council, Highways, Streetscene (rubbish and recycling), Yorkshire Water, the local police, DEFRA and so on. Other matters the Council has to deal with include planning applications, street lighting, grass cutting of the verges , fly tipping, tree felling, provision of waste bins etc. The aim of the Parish Council is to maintain and improve the villages of Claxton and Sand Hutton whilst following local government laws and guidelines and sticking to a tight budget.

The Council regularly invites the local District and County Councillor to meetings to keep the Parish in touch with Ryedale and North Yorkshire matters which are relevant to Claxton and Sand Hutton. Parish Councillors are volunteers and do not receive expenses; the Clerk is employed a few hours per week by the Parish Council and is paid at the national rate for a Parish Council of this size.

If you are interested please contact :

Pub Night Village Hall Friday 13 November

Dear All,
Although the stage was set for another good night Music, Food, etc.: the lack of response means we have had to cancel.
Thank you to those who volunteered to help with the evening, and to the few who replied, but sadly the numbers didn’t add up.

Regards,
Mike Young

Village Hall Function Friday 13 November: For one night only – The NAAFI Dug-out Shelter

Sand Hutton & Claxton Village Hall

7.30 pm till late/the beer runs out

I thought it a shame the late November pop up pub night was cancelled and would like to organise an ‘impromptu pub night’ with a ‘cheery, good humoured Remembrance’ theme.

You will be entertained musically by a squad of traditional singers and musicians and your rations will be a pie and pea supper, purchased by your, (pay on the door), wartime food coupon. Sadly, because of licensing rules we cannot sell alcohol on the night. So I’m afraid it’s bring your own, pehaps a small corkage donation on the door would make the evening worthwhile and cover other expenses.

Anyone can participate in the entertainment  – perhaps with a bit of Sassoon or Owen verse, or relevant song, but it is not mandatory.  Although not planned as a fancy dress evening, it would be great to see the odd soldier, sailor, airman, suffragette or land girl.

So, Pack Up Your Troubles and get practising your choruses and let me know if you’d like to come.

There is no charge for entry, however food  etc. will need to be purchased before hand so please let me know numbers, and if you wish to eat or not.

Any profit made from sale of food, plus corkage donations will go to the Poppy Fund and a donation to the Village Hall.

Regards,

Mike Young

P.S. Village Hall funds are not available to subsidise this night  so as a consequence I have to fund this myself.  Please be prompt therefore, with your returns and have them to me by Tuesday 10 November.
