GFT Visit to Skipwith Hall. 6th July, 7pm

Green Finger Tips gardening club’s next visit is to the 1700 Queen Anne manor house of Skipwith Hall with its 4 acre walled garden, which has been developed and re-modelled by various family members during the 20th century and, more latterly, has seen the establishment of a beautiful circular vegetable and fruit garden, restoration of the ancient Italian terrace garden and commencement of an arboretum.

Cost £7.00 including refreshments afterwards.

Skipwith Hall, Skipwith, Selby, Yorkshire, YO8 5SQ is 9m S of York, 6m N of Selby. From York A19 Selby, Left in Escrick, 4miles to Skipwith (this is always feels like a long 4miles!) As the A19/ A64 junction can be busy at peak times, an alternative ‘back’ route is from the Elvington Road via Wheldrake and then through Thorganby.

Please park in the field opposite the driveway (there should be a sign) and then come in via the small gate in front of the house. The Visit starts at 7.00pm

There is a pub in Skipwith, The Drovers Arms, which does food, (01757 288088) and starts serving at 5.30. The village is home to the ancient Skipwith Common, if you want to make for a more extended outing.

If you’d like to read more detailed information about Skipwith Hall, see the NGS website.

If you’re a member we look forward to seeing you there. If you’re interested in gardening and would like to come along please do.

Plant fair parking

Please be aware that the public will be visiting Sand Hutton on Sunday for the Plant Fair; they will not be able to park at the Village Hall and so we are using the school carpark, But if numbers exceed the space, cars will be parked on the street. We hope that the event will draw a big crowd, and help us raise money to maintain the Village Hall, but we apologise for any inconvenience.
