Community Library Update

The Community Library will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday 27 August. It will re-open at 10am on Monday 3 September.

Saturday Social

It was good to see so many parisioners attend the Saturday Social yesterday and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves. This time the theme was ‘buy local’ and there were great produce items available – scrummy homemade buns from Jack, honey from Fiona, beautiful jewellery from Deborah, greeting cards from Rose Trading (with all profits going to the De-Fib appeal), flour from Yorkshire Organic Millers (Spaunton Bank), plants, preserves and who could forget Jennie arriving with a plate of her famous pork pies still warm, with the aroma filling the hall.

There were refreshments aplenty and thanks must go to the ladies of the WI for making so many cups of tea & coffee. The heritage display was fascinating especially those genuine mini Claxton bricks, the villages’ website was up and running, the community library was open and we found out about the 2 newest clubs – Shutterbugs and the forthcoming Knit & Natter group. Not forgetting Liz updating us on the De-Fib appeal (donations are still most welcome!) and information was available about the Village Produce Show in Sept. Finally, our very own Olympic Games Volunteer Anne White popped in to tell us about her experiences ‘down South’.
Apologies if I’ve left anything out – there was just so much going on. Thanks to everyone who made yesterday’s event such a great success.

New addition to the Community Library!

From Monday 30th July, when the Community Library is open, we will also have a ‘Community Jigsaw’ on the go, so why not pop in, have a complimentary cuppa with us and complete a piece or two of jigsaw then, choose a book to go home with.

If you have bored kids during the school holidays, why not bring them down to the village hall to help complete the jigsaws too – everyone is welcome (as are donations of jigsaws – no pieces missing please).

The Community Library is open every Monday Morning 10am – 12 in the village hall. We look forward to seeing you!

Community Library Update

Thanks to generous donations we now have over 300 books to choose from – several in hardback. We also have over 50 DVDs for your enjoyment.

Why not make a date to pop in and see us on Monday 10am – 12 noon? Enjoy a cuppa whilst you browse.

Claxton & Sand Hutton Community Library

Thank you to those who visited the community library today – I hope you enjoy your books and look forward to seeing you next week – tell your neighbours and bring them too!

The Library is growing thanks to the very generous donations so far however, we still require more books please.

With the school summer holidays fast approaching, it would be lovely if the children could visit the library and choose a book BUT we need some books for them. Please could you see if you have any books your children have grown out of and donate them to the library.

I can collect from Claxton & Sand Hutton if required – please ring Angela Steele on 468396.

Community Library SOS

The Claxton & Sand Hutton Community Library project is taking shape but we need more books!
If you have any books you no longer require, please donate them to the community library so that others may get enjoyment from them.
We are looking for Fiction and Non Fiction books – paperbacks or hardbacks. We would also be pleased to receive unwanted DVDs.

Additionally, we are also looking for a bookcase of approximate size 134cm width, 94 cm height (that’s 52 inches x 37 inches for non metric users!)

If you are able to help with any of these items please call Anne White (tel 468550) or Angela Steele (tel 468396).

Community Library Opening Time

The Community Library (based in the village hall) will be open on Wednesday June 20th
from 12 noon – 3pm. Lots of books to choose from and all for free. Please pop in and see us.

I am in the process of producing a list of all the books (and DVDs) we currently hold and which will be regularly updated. If you would like a free copy please contact me – Angela on tel 468396 (Large print version will be available on request).

Freecycling Anyone?

If you have anything to Freecycle there is a new area on the site under “Community Noticeboard’

I also noticed quite a few other local communities are now turning their Phone Boxes into Recycling Centres and Libraries – see

Does anybody think this might be a good idea?
