Litter Pick

Don’t forget the Spring litter pick this Saturday 25th.

Equipment such as litter pickers, rubbish bags and ‘high vis’ vests will be available and as usual it would be a good idea to wear walking boots/sturdy shoes and gardening gloves.

Afterwards, come and enjoy a bacon sandwich (or veggie option) and refreshments back at the Village Hall.

Meet at the Village Hall car park at 10.30am Saturday.

Please help to keep our villages tidy, it really is worth the effort.

Litter Pick

It’s time to clean up our villages!

The Spring litter pick will be held on Saturday March 28th.

Please join us to walk around/between Claxton & Sand Hutton in small groups, collecting litter from the verges and pathways. It really does make a huge difference to where we live when our villages are clean and tidy.

Equipment such as litter pickers, rubbish bags and ‘high vis’ vests will be available (thanks to Ryedale District Council) but as usual it would be a good idea to wear walking boots/sturdy shoes and gardening gloves.

As a thank you for giving up your time to help, there will be sizzling bacon sandwiches (or veggie option) and refreshments back at the Village Hall afterwards.

Thank You Litter Pickers

What a pile! Thank you to all the litter pickers who helped out over the weekend and collected many, many bags of rubbish from our paths and verges. Both villages are looking much smarter.

About 25 litter pickers of all ages helped collect rubbish. As usual the ‘finds’ were varied from cans, glass bottles, crisp packets, food wrappers to the more unexpected traffic cones, a pair of waders, CDs, gloves, Yellow pages, toys and some other grim items that I won’t mention! After all the collecting, volunteers met at the Village Hall and were rewarded with tasty bacon sandwiches and a cup of tea. A special mention should go to Peter for collecting all the bags in his trailer and to Angela for very organised bacon sandwich making!

Not only is litter unsightly and unhygienic for us humans, our local pets and wildlife are at risk from litter. Thousands of animals are injured every year by litter and so we have helped our local wildlife too. Thank you to all those who joined the Parish Council to help.

Thank You Litter Pickers!

Despite the rain showers, 30 of our local residents helped litter pick over the weekend – thank you!

We collected a large amount of litter in 2 trailers – an extra thank you to Peter Stott and Jennie Whiteley for the use of your trailers and dealing with Ryedale Council this week to get rid of the rubbish. The rubbish included a road sign, a carpet, a pink bike, a dubious DVD, mattress springs, piles of blue ribbon plus loads of yoghurt pots, plastic packaging and cans.

The litter pickers remained jolly despite the wet conditions and most of the pickers made it back to the Village Hall for tea and cakes and a well earned sit down. Thank you everyone – it makes a real difference to our villages.

Litter Pick – This Sunday

The weather forecast looks OK for Sunday so come and join us to walk around Claxton and Sand Hutton to collect litter from verges and pathways. We can provide litter pickers and bags (thanks to Ryedale District Council) but wearing gardening gloves and walking boots would be useful.
Last year, we collected a large trailer full of litter and it makes a big difference to the appearance of our villages.  Plus, we will meet back in the Village Hall afterwards for tea/coffee and cake.

Even just an hour of collecting will make a significant difference so please come and join your friends and neighbours for a litter pick. We will meet in the Sand Hutton Village Hall car park at 2pm to collect equipment and decide who goes where. See you then.

Litter Pick – This Sunday!

There will be a litter pick this Sunday (6th May) around Claxton and Sandhutton to tidy up the verges and pathways. Please meet at the Village Hall, Sand Hutton at 2.30pm to collect equipment eg bags and litter pickers and please wear tough walking shoes or boots! There will be refreshments back at the Village Hall to enjoy after some litter collecting. Come along and join your friends and neighbours and help keep our villages safe and tidy.
